SPC vs LVT vs laminate: which floor suits a Singapore home?
Updated October 2026 · Enoch Surfaces, SingaporeFor most HDB and condo homes SPC is the practical choice. Its rigid limestone-and-PVC core does not swell when wet, stays stable in humid weather, and can often go over existing tiles. LVT is softer and warmer underfoot. Laminate looks like timber but its fibreboard core can swell if water reaches the edges.

Which to pick, room by room
Many shops in Singapore sell SPC as "SPC vinyl" or simply "vinyl", so ask for the core type, total thickness and wear layer before you compare prices.
Questions
Is SPC flooring water-resistant?
The core does not swell, warp or buckle when wet, unlike laminate. Water can still get under the planks through the joints, so wipe up standing water. Keep tiles on a wet bathroom floor.
Is SPC the same as vinyl?
SPC is a type of vinyl flooring with a rigid stone-plastic core. LVT is the flexible kind. Shops often use the names loosely, so ask for the core type and thickness.
Does SPC feel cold underfoot?
It feels firmer and cooler than LVT or timber. Try a sample barefoot before you decide.
