SPC vs laminate for commercial projects
Updated October 2026 · Enoch Surfaces, SingaporeSPC has a limestone-polymer core that does not swell with water, so it handles Singapore humidity, mopping and spills better than laminate with an HDF wood-fibre core. Laminate can have a harder surface on some grades. For hotel rooms, offices and rentals where water exposure is likely, SPC is usually the safer choice.
| SPC | Laminate | |
|---|---|---|
| Core | Limestone + polymer | HDF (wood fibre) |
| Water | Highly water-resistant core | Swells if water reaches the core |
| Humidity | Dimensionally stable (SGS tested to ISO 23999) | Can move with humidity |
| Sound | Quieter; acoustic build available | Can sound hollow without good underlay |
| Price | Enoch planks ~S$1.55–1.90 psf + labour S$0.50–0.60 psf | Ask the supplier |
