5-room HDB questions
Can SPC go over the tiles in my 5-room HDB flat?
Often, yes, when the tiles are sound and level. That avoids hacking and disposal. HDB's renovation guidelines list vinyl flooring as work that needs no permit, while hacking tiles does need one. Check HDB's current guidelines before you start.
Which thickness should I choose?
5 mm is the default for most homes. 6 mm has a heavier core for heavy traffic or for laying over existing tiles. 6.5 mm adds a bonded acoustic layer for neighbours below.
Should the kitchen get SPC too?
SPC's rigid core does not swell when wet, so it can go into a kitchen. Wipe up standing water, because it can reach the joints. Keep tiles on a wet bathroom floor.
How is skirting priced?
Skirting boards are $5 per 2.4 m strip. We estimate the running length from your floor area; the installer measures it on site and quotes the fitting separately.
