Why does the floor below matter before SPC installation?

Why Subfloor Condition Matters Before Installing SPC Flooring

The subfloor matters because SPC is a rigid click-lock floor. Unevenness, hollow areas, trapped moisture, loose tiles or poor edge conditions can create movement, sound, gaps or lifting after installation.

Why it matters

Many flooring problems are blamed on the board only. In real homes, product route, subfloor condition and installation details work together.

Uneven support can stress the lock

A rigid plank can bridge small imperfections, but it is not a solution for every uneven floor. Unsupported areas can let the joint move when people walk across it.

Movement can show as clicking sound.

Pressure points can stress the lock edge.

Loose areas should be reviewed before covering them.

Moisture needs a clear source check

SPC's core is water-resistant, but trapped moisture below the floor, wet edges or leak paths still need review. The installed result depends on the full floor system.

Past leaks should be mentioned before quotation.

Wet-area edges need separate planning.

Standing water and trapped moisture should not be ignored.

Good quotes show site assumptions

A useful quote should make the current floor condition visible. If preparation, hollow tile review, skirting or transition work is missing, two prices may not describe the same job.

Ask what is included in floor preparation.

Ask what still needs site confirmation.

Keep photos and accepted quote details for support after handover.
