What is the difference between SPC and vinyl flooring?

SPC Vs Vinyl Flooring

SPC is a rigid-core flooring route. Vinyl flooring is usually softer and often depends on plasticizer, and some vinyl constructions use fiberglass for dimensional control. Softness should be explained with material documents, not treated as proof by itself.

Material routes

SPC

Rigid core

Lock strength and site fit decide performance.

Vinyl

Softened route

Soft feel needs plasticizer and document proof.

Laminate / wood

Wood route

Moisture behavior depends on wood-based construction.

Why it matters

SPC and vinyl can look similar on the surface, but the core behavior, joint stability and material questions are different.

SPC starts from a rigid core

SPC is built around a rigid mineral-PVC core. A strong route creates a firm plank with enough binding strength to protect the click-lock edge during normal installation and use.

Rigid core behavior is different from softened sheet or plank vinyl.

The lock edge depends on core toughness.

A good SPC route should be explained by construction, not only colour.

Vinyl softness needs explanation

PVC itself is not naturally a soft floor in the way many buyers feel vinyl. Softness usually comes from a plasticizer route, so the material should be named and documented.

More softening can change heat and movement behavior.

A softer floor can need more help with dimensional stability.

Eco wording is not a substitute for product documents.

Fiberglass is a control layer, not a free pass

Some vinyl products use fiberglass to support dimensional stability. That may help the product stay flatter, but cutting, broken edges, repair and removal still need proper handling logic.

Fiberglass is used because the vinyl route needs stability control.

Dust and exposed broken edges should be handled carefully.

Buyers should ask for product documents and installation handling details.
