Why it matters
Singapore homes often compare SPC and laminate because both can show wood designs. The real difference is the core material underneath the design layer.
Core material is the first difference
Laminate usually depends on a wood-fibre board. SPC depends on a rigid composite core. That difference changes how each floor reacts to moisture, cutting and joint stress.
Laminate can be sensitive to swelling when water reaches the core.
SPC has a rigid core that does not behave like wood fibre.
Both still need correct installation and edge planning.
Where SPC usually fits better
SPC is often the clearer route when the buyer wants practical water resistance, easy cleaning and a stable click-lock floor for indoor residential use.
Useful for many HDB and condo living areas.
Practical around normal cleaning and accidental spills.
Still needs site review for wet areas and uneven floors.
Where the choice still needs review
A material name alone does not finish the decision. The existing floor, door height, furniture load and installation detail still decide whether the product fits.
Check current tiles or screed condition.
Check door clearance and skirting.
Choose by room facts, not only by material label.
